Laugh
for LINC
A Collection of Gloucestershire Children’s
Humorous Poetry

The recent success of LINC’s first
poetry competition for Gloucestershire primary children compensated with
a wonderful celebration of poetry on National poetry day at Cheltenham
Ladies College.
Selected finalists were invited to read
out their poems to a packed audience of family, friends and invited
sponsors and judges. Each child read their poems beautifully and every
single person commented on what a wonderful afternoon and how much they
had enjoyed listening to the children’s moment of fame as well as
listening to the talents of John Dougherty reading poems from the
forthcoming book.
As yet, we do not know what funds have
been raised from the sale of the book, but more importantly I think we
all agreed that sometimes its is equally as important, even charities,
to give back a little to the local community. On this occasion, the
delight of working with such wonderful young poets and hopefully new
supporters of LINC was worth all the hard work and hours of planning
that goes into a project of this nature.
We are indebted to the design talents of
the Chelsea Building society, for their endless patience and knowledge
of producing what we think is a unique book.
Also to John Dougherty, if you ever get
the chance for your children to hear him at one of his poetry workshops,
do not miss him. Our Judges, again The Chelsea Building Society, Martin
Horwood MP, Jan Stubbings and Dave Smith who supported the project and of course, to all the many
children who donated their time and talent.
Thank you very much
