Patient and family support
Undergoing intensive chemotherapy doesn’t just impact
your health – it affects your family, your way of life and can cause
enormous financial strain. LINC realised right from the outset that it’s
not just medical support patients need.
| John wasn’t receiving many visitors and
LINC noticed that he often felt lonely and isolated, which they
felt may not aid his recovery. On further investigation it
transpired that John’s family lived in East Powys and could only
afford the trip to Cheltenham once a week. LINC’s patient and
family support programme stepped in and helped John’s family
with transport costs which meant they were able to visit more
frequently. |

Any form of cancer can cause serious
financial difficulties especially if the patient is self
employed. Our clinical psychologist and the nurses on
the ward alert us to anyone they feel needs our help. |
Thinking about childcare arrangements, or how families can afford travel
costs to the hospital may not be everyone’s first thoughts when
undergoing treatment, but they are important factors which can add
unnecessary worry. LINC understood this and formed the Patient and
Family Support Programme, which over the years has become an invaluable
service to a large number of patients and their families.
