Soprano brings joy
to adoring audience!
Lesley Garrett enchanted 2000 fans at a gala performance at the
Centaur, Cheltenham Racecourse in aid of LINC on Saturday 18
August 2007. With wonderful support from the Royal Philharmonic
Concert Orchestra and tenor Paul Austin Kelly, Lesley produced a
stirring collection of songs and arias from musicals, film and
opera.
Lesley’s vivacious and warm personality captured everyone’s
heart. Her programme included Puccini’s O Mio Babbino Caro,
Dvorak’s Song to the Moon and duets from Verdi’s La Traviata
whilst finishing to rapturous applause with Follow every Rainbow
Till You Find Your Dream and You’ll Never Walk Alone.
Paul Austin Kelly was a strong and supportive singer whose
programme included Donizetti’s Una Furtiva Lagrima, If I Loved
You from Carousel and the two Verdi duets.
The orchestra was a delight in itself. Conducted by Philip
Ellis, also Lesley’s musical director, it opened the concert
playing the celebratory Festive Overture by Shostakovich, later
playing the theme from ET and the Champagne Polka.
All in all a truly wonderful evening. |
